How Was Colubridfest Created?
It was just suppose to be a BBQ...
They were talking about Carpetfest...
On an episode of CCR, Carpetfest, the gathering of Carpet Python enthusiasts, was mentioned by Zac. Clint had never heard of Carpetfest and was unfamiliar with exactly what it was. He had a thought, but didn't ask. Zac mentioned how he had received messages suggesting that CCR put together a "Colubridfest" and he thought it was a great idea. Clint loved the thought as well! But Zac wasn't used to the fast paced environment Clint was from and had no idea what that suggestion was going to lead to...
Zac's Heart Skips A Beat
So unbeknownst to Zac, Clint got to work immediately. On an episode of CCR, Colubridfest was brought up again, and Clint jumped in with what the plan would be. It would be a mixer, a day of educational talks, an auction, and a colubrid only expo! Zac had a moment of shock as this was news to him... although Clint thought they were on the same page! After completing the episode and getting to gather himself lol, Zac gave Clint a call the next day...
All Aboard!
Once on the phone, Zac shares with Clint what he thought Colubridfest was going to be, exactly what Carpetfest is. A BBQ and get together! Clint's reply.... "Well, that's not what we are doing!" After a chuckle from both, Zac said "Let's do it!" While the vision was unified, there was so much work to be done that was well out of CCR's wheelhouse. That's where Micky Meyer of the Show Me Reptile Show promotion came into play. After a single conversation about what Zac and Clint wanted to achieve with Colubridfest, Micky jumped in without hesitation. With his expertise on putting an event together, the Colubridfest team was created.
Bumps, Hiccups, and Fruition
After several calls and ensuring all were on the same page, Micky and his team got to work. All had decided on Indianapolis as the city for a number of reasons. State laws were favorable for colubrids/colubroids, the airport is an inexpensive travel option, so many major interstates in the midwest lead to Indy, and lodging is also economical. Finding a venue would be easy, right? WRONG. It took months and months! Rejection after rejection... An event like this couldn't be held in a typical reptile show venue, this was something special. Eventually, nearly last minute, Micky was able to lock down the Indianapolis Convention Center and Colubridfest was officially a go!
